We offer classes for students 5-years-old and up in Taekwondo, a Traditional Martial Art and modern Olympic Sport.
Our emphasis is on developing the student, providing them with the mental and physical tools to handle life's difficulties and to achieve their true potential.
What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is an art of self-defense, the national sport of South Korea and a modern Olympic sport. Millions of people all over the world practice it. In South Korea it is taught in elementary schools, in private schools (Dojang) and in the military. The literal translation of Taekwondo is "The Art of Punching and Kicking." Taekwondo is sometimes referred to as "Korean Karate." Although appearing very similar to Karate, there are some distinct differences, mainly in the area of kicking.
The
Taekwondo stylist uses punching, blocking, jumping, parrying and dodging
along with a vast array of kicks to formulate a system of unarmed self-defense
with an emphasis on building a strong moral character. It is a way of training
the body and mind together, and its final goal is deep inner peace, built
upon confidence, compassion and wisdom.
What are the benefits of Taekwondo?
As with everything, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Dedicated training brings many benefits including:
- Increased balance, coordination and gracefulness
- Improved concentration and mindfulness
- Improved manners and discipline
- Increased flexibility
- Increased strength
- Stress relief
- Increased confidence
- Self-Defense skills
In addition, many students have noticed a sharp rise in their school results after starting Taekwondo.
Many studies have shown that regular practice of Taekwondo is beneficial to students who suffer from A.D.D./A.D.H.D.
For adults, Taekwondo offers a healthy way to relieve the stresses of the day and helps us regain lost flexibility, stamina, and is simply a fun activity to perform. Moreover, the confidence gained through learning and perfecting real-life self-defense skills carries over into our daily life. Facing and overcoming challenges in the Dojang helps us to overcome challenges out of the Dojang.
